“David said, ‘The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.’” — 1 Samuel 17:37
“As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.” — 1 Samuel 17:48
A true warrior is not made in the moment of battle—he is forged in the hidden fields, in the lonely places where no one is watching. David didn’t become a giant-slayer when he stepped onto the battlefield with Goliath. He became one when he stood firm before the lion and the bear. Long before the cheers, there was the chase. Long before the victory, there was the vigilance.
Men, like David, we are called to be warriors and hunters—protectors of what God has entrusted to us. David ran toward Goliath not because he was fearless, but because he was faith-filled. His confidence was not arrogance; it was the memory of God’s past deliverance. He remembered how God gave him strength to hunt down predators that threatened his flock. He had scars from preparation, so he could stand in courage during confrontation.

Being a man of God means you hunt down what threatens your home—sin, complacency, passivity—and you confront it head-on. You don’t wait for trouble to come to your tent; you run toward it with a sling of faith and a heart trained by battle.
Challenge:
What lion or bear are you facing right now? Don’t shrink back. Your private battles are preparing you for public victories. The warrior God is shaping in secret will one day stand before giants.
Prayer:
Lord, train my hands for battle and my heart for courage. Make me a man who hunts down anything that threatens what You’ve given me, and who runs toward the fight with faith, like David. Amen.
